What Detroit Metro charges in its own lots: $20 Green Lot, $23 Big Blue Deck, $32 McNamara Garage, $51 valet, plus a 2.65% card fee
Long-term parking at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) costs $20 per day in the Green Lot, $23 per day in the Big Blue Deck and $32 per day in the McNamara Parking Garage, with short-term decks at $43 and $44 and McNamara valet at $51. Every card payment adds a 2.65% processing fee, and the Green Lot and valet are card-only. The Big Blue Deck is an enclosed walkway from the Evans Terminal and the McNamara garage a covered walkway from the McNamara Terminal, so the right deck depends on your airline: Delta, Air France, Aeromexico and WestJet use McNamara, everyone else uses Evans. Off-airport lots start at $11 per day with shuttles, and one of them is valet at that price. Rates checked September 8, 2026.
How much does Detroit airport parking cost?
The Wayne County Airport Authority's daily maximums are $20 in the Green Lot, $23 in the Big Blue Deck long-term levels, $32 in the McNamara garage long-term levels, $43 and $44 in the two short-term areas, and $51 for McNamara valet. Each additional or partial day after the first 24 hours bills at the same flat rate, and a 2.65% fee is added to every credit or debit card transaction.
The hourly ladders are identical at the two garages until the daily cap: $4 for a half hour, $6 for an hour, $8 for two, $12 for three, $16 for four and $20 for five. Where they diverge is the top: the Big Blue Deck's long-term rate stops at $23 after five hours, while McNamara keeps climbing to $32 at seven hours. The Green Lot has no hourly rate at all.
| Official DTW option | Daily maximum | Hourly ladder | Serves | Access |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Green Lot | $20 flat | None; card only | Both terminals | Continuous free shuttle to each Ground Transportation Center; takes vehicles over 8 ft 2 in |
| Big Blue Deck, long-term | $23 | $4 to $20 through 5 hours, then $23 | Evans Terminal | Enclosed pedestrian walkway to Evans; shuttle to McNamara every 10 minutes |
| McNamara Parking Garage, long-term | $32 | $4 to $28 through 7 hours, then $32 | McNamara Terminal | Covered walkway to the terminal; Delta bag check on Level 6 of the garage |
| Big Blue Deck, short-term | $43 | $4 for the first half hour, about $4 an hour to $40 at 10 hours | Evans Terminal | Directly across from the terminal |
| McNamara, short-term | $44 | $4 for the first half hour, about $4 an hour to $40 at 10 hours | McNamara Terminal | Directly across from the terminal |
| McNamara valet | $51 | $12 for 2 hours, $4 per hour to $48 at 11 hours | McNamara Terminal | Cars stored on Level 6 of the garage; card only since June 22, 2026 |
Height is the constraint the rate card does not mention. Most of both structures cannot take a vehicle over 7 feet; van-accessible spaces up to 8 feet 2 inches sit on Level 1 zones A and B of the Big Blue Deck and Level 2 near the B elevators at McNamara, and anything taller goes to the Green Lot. The authority also bars electric vehicles with unrepaired safety recalls from every DTW parking facility.
Which deck for which terminal: Delta at McNamara, everyone else at Evans
McNamara Terminal is home to Delta, Air France, Aeromexico and WestJet; Evans Terminal is home to Air Canada, Alaska, American, Avelo, Frontier, JetBlue, Lufthansa, Royal Jordanian, Southwest, Spirit, Sun Country, Turkish, United, Volaris and all charter flights. Park in the Big Blue Deck for an Evans flight and in the McNamara garage for a McNamara flight, or in the Green Lot for either.
The two terminals are not walkable from each other. A terminal-to-terminal shuttle loops between the Evans Ground Transportation Center at the Big Blue Deck, the Westin at McNamara and the McNamara Ground Transportation Center about every 10 minutes, so parking in the wrong deck costs a bus ride, not a lost flight. Boarding passes sometimes abbreviate the terminals as "EM" for McNamara and "WE" for Evans.
The price difference between the decks is $9 a day in long-term, which is the premium for Delta's home terminal. A Delta flyer who parks in the Big Blue Deck and rides the shuttle saves $63 on a week; whether that is worth two bus rides with luggage is the only judgment call in on-airport parking at DTW.
Off-airport lots near DTW: $11 a day, and one of them is valet
Five off-airport lots near Detroit Metro take advance bookings from $11 per day, and three of them, Airlines Parking on Merriman Road, U.S. Park on Middlebelt Road and Valet Connections on Wick Road in Taylor, share that $11 price with shuttles every 10 to 15 minutes. Valet Connections is the outlier: valet service at $11 against the airport's $51, and the most-booked DTW lot on ParkingAccess in the last 90 days.
Reservations carry a $5 booking fee and can be cancelled free up to one hour before drop-off. Distances below are straight-line from the terminal area.
| Off-airport lot | From (per day) | Distance | Shuttle | Type | Google rating | Book |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Airlines Parking, 8325 Merriman Rd, Romulus | $11.00 | 2.3 mi | Every 15 min, about 5-min ride | Self-park, 24-hour access | 4.2 on 975 reviews | Airlines Parking DTW rates |
| U.S. Park on Middlebelt, 9601 Middlebelt Rd, Romulus | $11.00 | 1.9 mi | Every 15 min, about 7-min ride | Self-park, 24-hour access | 4.0 on 1,947 | U.S. Park DTW rates |
| Valet Connections, 27299 Wick Rd, Taylor | $11.00 | 2.8 mi | Every 10 min, about 10-min ride | Valet, 24/7 desk, security | 3.8 on 3,425 | Valet Connections DTW rates |
| Hampton Inn Detroit/Belleville, 46280 N I-94 Service Dr, Belleville | $11.95 | 7.3 mi | Every 60 min | Hotel lot, 24/7 desk | 4.1 on 822 | Hampton Inn Belleville parking |
| Radisson Hotel Detroit Metro Airport, 8800 Wickham Rd, Romulus | $14.10 | 2.0 mi | Every 15 min, about 10-min ride | Hotel lot, 24/7 desk, security | 4.1 on 750 | Radisson DTW parking |
The three $11 lots split on service rather than price. Airlines Parking has the highest rating of the three and the shortest ride, about five minutes from Merriman Road. U.S. Park has the largest review base among the self-park options and the closest address to the terminals. Valet Connections trades a lower rating on a much larger sample, 3,425 reviews, for the convenience of handing over the keys; its 36 bookings in 90 days make it the lot ParkingAccess customers actually choose at DTW. The Hampton Inn is the one to avoid for a tight schedule: 7.3 miles out with a shuttle once an hour.
Original research: seven days at DTW with the 2.65% card fee applied
With the card fee included, a seven-day stay costs $229.94 in the McNamara garage, $165.27 in the Big Blue Deck, $143.71 in the Green Lot and $366.46 in valet, against $77 for a week of self-park or valet at the three $11 off-airport lots before their $5 booking fee. The cheapest on-airport product costs $66.71 more for the week than the off-airport valet.
Method: we multiplied each of the authority's daily maximums by seven days and by 1.0265 to reflect the processing fee it adds to card payments, which is how nearly everyone pays and the only way to pay in the Green Lot or at valet. Off-airport figures use the "from" rate on the day we checked, before taxes and the $5 booking fee.
| Option | Daily basis | 7-day total | Against the $229.94 McNamara garage |
|---|---|---|---|
| McNamara valet | $51 + 2.65% | $366.46 | +$136.52 |
| McNamara garage, long-term | $32 + 2.65% | $229.94 | — |
| Big Blue Deck, long-term | $23 + 2.65% | $165.27 | −$64.67 |
| Green Lot | $20 + 2.65% | $143.71 | −$86.23 |
| Radisson Hotel Detroit Metro Airport | $14.10 | $98.70 | −$131.24 |
| Hampton Inn Detroit/Belleville | $11.95 | $83.65 | −$146.29 |
| Airlines Parking, U.S. Park or Valet Connections | $11.00 | $77.00 | −$152.94 |
The result that matters is the valet line. Detroit is one of the few large airports where off-airport valet undercuts the airport's cheapest self-park lot, by $66.71 over a week once the fee is counted. The second result is the Green Lot's real position: at $143.71 for the week it is the airport's value product, but it is a surface lot with a shuttle, and for $45 less than that the Radisson is a hotel lot two miles out with the same ride.
Shuttles at Detroit Metro: Green Lot buses, the terminal loop, and where off-airport vans stop
Free airport shuttles run continuously between the Green Lot and the Ground Transportation Center at each terminal, and a separate terminal-to-terminal loop departs about every 10 minutes from the Evans Ground Transportation Center, the Westin entrance and the McNamara Ground Transportation Center. Off-airport lots, hotel shuttles and rental car buses all load at the same Ground Transportation Centers, on Level 4 at McNamara.
Among the bookable lots, Valet Connections publishes a 10-minute interval and the Romulus self-park lots 15 minutes, with rides of five to ten minutes; the Hampton Inn in Belleville runs hourly. For a 6 a.m. departure from Evans, a 15-minute interval plus a seven-minute ride from U.S. Park means leaving the lot 40 minutes before you want to be at the counter. The Big Blue Deck's enclosed walkway removes that buffer entirely, which is the $12-a-day difference between it and the $11 lots for a one-day trip.
Public transit exists but is thin: SMART's Route 125 serves both terminals and Route 280 serves Evans, and AirRide connects Ann Arbor to both Ground Transportation Centers. Neither replaces a car for most of the region, which is why DTW's 18,000-plus on-airport spaces fill the way they do.
Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport: 18,000 spaces, two terminals, one authority
Detroit Metro, in Romulus, Michigan, is operated by the Wayne County Airport Authority, which runs more than 18,000 on-airport parking spaces across the McNamara garage, the Big Blue Deck and the Green Lot and staffs a 24-hour parking hotline at 800-642-1978 for lot status. The Big Blue Deck is steps from Evans through an enclosed walkway; the McNamara garage connects to its terminal by covered walkway and holds Delta's bag check on Level 6.
Both garages also keep short-term parking directly across from their terminals, at the $43 and $44 daily maximums above, for stays measured in hours. The Green Lot is the surface option and the only one without a height limit that matters, which makes it the default for anything on a lift kit, a roof box or a trailer hitch that pushes past 8 feet 2 inches.
The authority's rate pages are the source of every on-airport number on this page; they publish the hourly ladders in half-hour steps and state the card fee explicitly. Off-airport lots along Merriman, Middlebelt and Wick roads set their own prices and are not affected by the authority's changes.
When parking at DTW is the wrong call
Do not pay for McNamara valet for a trip longer than a day, do not bring a vehicle over 7 feet into either garage, and do not book the Hampton Inn lot for an early flight.
- Airport valet on a long trip. $51 a day plus the fee is $366 for a week. Valet Connections charges $11 a day for the same handoff, $77 for the week.
- Tall vehicles in the decks. Most of both structures stop at 7 feet, van spaces at 8 feet 2 inches. Anything taller belongs in the Green Lot.
- Unrepaired EV recalls. The authority prohibits electric vehicles with open safety recalls from every DTW lot. Check the recall status before you drive in.
- Cash at valet. Card only since June 22, 2026, and the Green Lot is card-only as well.
- Hourly shuttles with a morning flight. The Hampton Inn's 60-minute interval from 7.3 miles out is the one schedule on this page that can cost a flight. Choose a 10-or-15-minute lot in Romulus.
- Wrong deck for your airline. Delta, Air France, Aeromexico and WestJet are McNamara; every other carrier is Evans. The terminal shuttle fixes the mistake in about 10 minutes, but not with a late check-in.
