The South Lot is the tailgating heart of Soldier Field – and a red season coupon is the official way in, sold to season-ticket holders at $1,328 (premium) or via the $708 random-selection program, in windows that closed July 8. The Waldron Deck (white coupon, directly south of the stadium) is prized for proximity, but it's a parking structure with structure problems: fan guides consistently report it backs up significantly after the final whistle while the East Museum surface lot clears faster. Grills are banned on its lower level and heaters are banned throughout; the upper, open-air level allows tailgating under the campus-wide rules below. If a fast exit matters more than a short walk, a surface lot – or Grant Park – beats the deck.
Tailgating is allowed on all Museum Campus surface lots, the upper Waldron Deck, and McCormick Place lots B, D and E – but the official rules surprise people: no tents or canopies of any size, no fire pits, no deep fryers or oil-based cooking, propane tanks over 19 lbs banned campus-wide, no drinking games, one parking space per setup, and no overnight parking. Lots open 4 hours before kickoff; tailgating ends 2 hours after the game, and the McCormick lots prohibit post-game tailgating entirely after both day and night games.
Every driving route converges on the 18th Drive exit off DuSable Lake Shore Drive. North of the stadium: North Garage and East Museum Lot along McFetridge Drive. South: Waldron Deck, then the South Lot, then Adler and Burnham Harbor along the water.
