Highmark Stadium Parking Guide

Updated for current event-night routing and booking paths.

Nearly every parking guide for this stadium describes a building being demolished right now. The Bills opened a new Highmark Stadium in June 2026 on the west side of Abbott Road, across from the 1973 bowl they used through January. Lot names changed, approach roads changed, and cash parking vanished. If a guide says drive up to Lot 4 with two twenties, it is two seasons stale.

Is this the new stadium or the old one?

The new one. It opened June 23, 2026, seats 60,108, cost about $2.2 billion, and sits at 10 Bills Plaza — not 1 Bills Drive. The old stadium closed after the January 4, 2026 finale; power was cut May 1 and demolition runs through March 2027. That footprint becomes parking eventually, but not this season: on the 2026 lot map the old bowl is a fenced gray void ringed by the White, Orange, Blue and Green lots. You park around the demolition site, not on it.

The lots are colors now, not numbers

Lots 1 through 7 are retired. The 2026 system is Blue, Blue ADA, Bronze, Gold, Gray, Green, Orange, Platinum, White, White ADA, plus Bus & Limo and RV lots. Abbott Road splits them in two.

West (new stadium): Platinum, Gold, Gray and Bronze — park here and you never cross a road. East (old stadium): White, Orange, Blue and Green, plus RV/Bus/Limo and the Field House lot. The team's own accessibility shuttles confirm the split — west-lot service runs from Gate B, east-lot from Gate E.

Your lot decides which road you may arrive on

Almost nobody publishes this, and it ruins mornings. Each color lot has a mandated approach direction — come from the wrong side and you are waved past to loop the complex.

  • Gray — Abbott Road from the south only
  • Gold — Big Tree Road from the west
  • Blue, Blue ADA, Green — Big Tree Road from the east only
  • Bronze, Platinum — Southwestern Boulevard from the west only
  • Orange, White, White ADA — Southwestern Boulevard from the east only

Then add the closure: Abbott Road shuts to all vehicles six hours before kickoff between Bills Drive and the NFTA Transportation Hub, becoming the pedestrian and tailgate spine. The two halves stop being connected by car long before you arrive.

What it costs, and where you actually buy it

There is no gate price because there is no gate: "All Highmark Stadium parking lots require an advanced purchase parking pass. Event Day parking transactions are limited to accessible parking only." Passes are valid only for the printed lot, non-transferable and non-refundable.

Real 2026 resale floors: Jets (Week 18) $75, Dolphins $104, Chiefs and Bears $115, Lions $125, Chargers $130, Ravens $133, Patriots $139. An August 2026 Action Network study put Highmark parking at $132 a game, the league high, and ranked the stadium the NFL's most expensive for a family at $2,193.95, up 21% year over year.

Hammer's Lot and the tailgates that are not on Bills property

The tailgating Buffalo is famous for mostly happens on private lots along Abbott Road, not in team lots. Hammer's Lot, off Abbott Road near Big Tree Road, has run 39 years and is home to Pinto Ron — Ken Johnson, who cooks on the hood of a red Ford Pinto using a shovel and an army helmet, then gets doused in ketchup and mustard 90 minutes before kickoff.

Buffalo News found operators around $40 a car, rising to $60 in the playoffs, and Danny's South owner Mark Ebeling quoted $60 for the 2026 opener. Fan-compiled lists still circulating online price Danny's South at $100 — treat those as historical. Orchard Park is drafting a permit process for private parking within a mile of the stadium, targeted for 2027.

What the official tailgate rules actually permit

Far stricter than the reputation. Your whole tailgate must fit a 9ft by 18ft stall plus a 9ft by 10ft area behind the vehicle, you cannot pick your space, and reserving one is not permitted. Propane grills are fine; charcoal and open-pit fires only if raised six inches off the ground. Banned: glass, wood stoves and fryers, anything driven into the ground including tent stakes, PA systems, megaphones, air horns, drones, and golf carts and scooters. Tailgating in Bills lots ends at kickoff.

RVs get no game-day entry at all: arrive between 8:00 AM and 10:00 PM the day before, quiet hours start at 10:00 PM, you cannot leave until two hours postgame, and you must be out by 2:00 PM the next day. Buses and limos are held one hour.

The $5 ride most fans never consider

NFTA Metro runs the Game Day Express at $5 per person each way, paid in exact cash on board or via the Token Transit app; Metro passes and MetGo are not accepted. Pickups run from six regional hubs including the Metropolitan Transportation Center downtown, University Station, Thruway Plaza and Niagara Falls. Schedules only post the week before each game, and the first return buses leave about 30 minutes after the final whistle. At $10 round trip against a $132 average, it is the biggest saving available here. Rideshare uses the Ride Share Lot at the west end of ECC South Campus; the Bills warn of "extremely long delays" postgame.

Getting out, and what December really feels like

The postgame plan is a designed evacuation. Big Tree Road (Route 20A) runs westbound-only postgame from Fieldhouse Drive to Route 219 and eastbound-only from Erie College Drive to Southwestern Boulevard, so the road you arrived on is often not the road you leave on. Lots close two hours after the game, capping how long you can wait traffic out. The stadium-to-I-90 stretch is the reliable bottleneck, and downtown Buffalo is 12 miles out.

There is no roof — a 360-degree canopy covers more than 60 percent of the seating and leaves the field open. None of it covers the lots or the walk, and the Bears game on Saturday, December 19 at 8:20 PM is the one to dress for. The team pays fans $20 an hour to shovel the stadium out, most recently on January 3, 2026.

2026 home schedule, and one listing to ignore

Eight home dates: Lions, Thu Sept 17, 8:15 PM; Chargers, Sun Sept 27, 1 PM; Patriots, Sun Oct 4, 1 PM; Ravens, Sun Nov 1, 1 PM; Dolphins, Sun Nov 22, 1 PM; Chiefs, Thu Nov 26, 8:20 PM; Bears, Sat Dec 19, 8:20 PM; Jets in Week 18, TBD. Preseason hosts Pittsburgh Thu Aug 27.

One correction: resale venue pages for "Highmark Stadium" parking have listed the Four Chord Music Festival on September 25–26, 2026. That festival is at the other Highmark Stadium — the Pittsburgh venue, since renamed F.N.B. Stadium. That same name collision is why some listings still show "Lot 4," "Lot 6" and "Cash Lot." Those lots are gone, and there is no cash lot on this property.

Common questions

How much is parking at Highmark Stadium?
No flat rate is published because all Bills lots are prepaid. Resale floors for 2026 run roughly $75 to $139 by opponent.

Can I just pay cash when I get there?
No. "There will be no day of game cash or credit card transactions" in Bills lots. The only event-day sales are accessible parking in the Blue ADA and White ADA lots, cashless and first-come.

What time do the parking lots open?
Four hours before kickoff, closing two hours after the game ends. Security gates open three hours before.

Is there free parking near the stadium?
The former ECC South Campus, where "advanced permits are not required," entered from Southwestern Blvd or Big Tree Rd. It is not a Bills lot, so nothing is held for you.

Can you still tailgate at Bills games?
Yes, but inside a 9ft by 10ft space behind your car, with no ground stakes, no glass and no fryers, ending at kickoff. The looser tailgates are on private Abbott Road lots.

Did the lot numbers change at the new stadium?
Yes. Numbered lots are retired. 2026 lots are Platinum, Gold, Gray and Bronze on the stadium side of Abbott Road and White, Orange, Blue and Green on the old side, plus RV, Bus & Limo and ADA lots.
