Does the Prospect Park Zoo Have Parking?

The Prospect Park Zoo offers no parking to its visitors, so drivers have to turn to nearby alternatives. Fortunately, Flatbush Avenue provides plenty of on-street parking spots within walking distance of the zoo. Hourly parking rates in NYC range from $1.25 to $7.50, and the fee in Brooklyn is $2.00 per hour.

You can pay for metered parking in Brooklyn using coins, credit cards, the ParkNYC app, or NYC Parking Card. The phone app is the most convenient payment method for both on-street spots and public parking lots around the city. When you park on the street, pay attention to the signs and time limits and park properly to avoid costly NYC parking tickets.

Street Parking Near Prospect Park Zoo

Is There Free Parking Near the Zoo?

The zoo visitors may find free parking spaces on Flatbush Avenue and surrounding streets on Sundays and major holidays. NYC parking meters aren’t in effect on the following holidays:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Labor Day
  • Independence Day
  • Thanksgiving
  • Christmas Day

The alternate side parking rule is also ineffective on Sundays, but other rules and time limits may still apply. For this reason, reading the signs carefully is essential.

ADA Parking Availability

Accessible parking for the Prospect Park Zoo guests is extremely limited. In addition to a few on-street ADA stalls, nearby garages and lots offer parking for the disabled, but these structures require at least a 10-minute walk. We recommend that you arrive early and park in any Prospect Park Zoo parking space on Flatbush Ave. If you come across an accessible spot, be sure to display your disabled parking permit.

Additional Parking Near the Prospect Park Zoo

Street spots near the zoo tend to fill out quickly, so you should look into alternatives and prepare a backup plan.

To save you some time, our team has already singled out the most cost-effective options in the area. These facilities offer safe and covered parking, while a couple of them also provide valet service. However, the walk to the Flatbush Avenue entrance will take at least 10 minutes.

Taking Public Transit to the Brooklyn Zoo

Public transportation helps you stay away from the parking hassle and save money in NYC, and the subway is the most popular choice.

The B and Q trains and the local Franklin Avenue Shuttle (S) pick up and drop off at the Prospect Park Station, which is a quick walk away from the zoo. After getting off, walk north on Flatbush Avenue to reach the zoo. The B41 local bus runs right to the Prospect Park entrance, while a few other lines stop just south of the zoo. The one-way fare for most riders on the subway and local buses is only $2.75.
