Charlotte airport is one of those mega-hubs for American Airlines that makes it good for American but a hustling madhouse for the traveller. I fly out of a small regional airport with 10 gates, so flying is a simple affair. But to go anywhere, you have to fly to the hub. Be it Atlanta, Chicago, Newark, Denver etc., you find yourself in a ant farm of at least 5 terminals with 20 to 50 gates each. You always end up at one end with 20 minutes or less to get to the other. It's a heck of a process. But, millions of people pass through the process every day.
Charlotte isn't much different but that doesn't mean it is horrendous either. Over the years, a number of additions and improvements have provided travellers numerous and various choices for food and beverage. There are several locations to sit and relax other than at the gates. And I believe, Charlotte was the first airport offering rocking chairs to relax in. ( As a frequent flyer for the last 35 years, it was the first place I saw them.). Bottom line, Charlotte Airport is a typical but very nice mega hub.
