For an airport based in the birthplace of aviation you'd think it would be exciting, clean, updated, and a nice place to travel in and out of, but no such luck. Very dated feeling even though a remodel was done recently. Nothing to eat. No shopping; other than the typical lame overpriced store you see in every other airport.
The front desk was helpful. Our friend got through security easily. She went to use the bathroom near her gate and a 3' in diameter piece of the ceiling fell in almost hitting her. As an international traveler she was not favorably impressed.
Came through at 6pm-ish. All the restaurants were closed. The terminal is dated. The baggage claim area was bright and clean. Best part of the airport. Rental cars are across the street in the garage which made it easy to pick up my car.
Not dependable for travel during inclement weather. All the surrounding airports closed and Dayton remained open. As a result the runways were backed up. They had NOTHING PLOWED and the luggage carts couldn't get through the snow. People waited an hour to get off the plane, sitting on the runway. Then waited another hour and a half to get luggage. The operations crew claims they had no idea they couldn't get luggage to the baggage area!?! WHAT is going on with this place??? It's no wonder people don't fly through Dayton. Second rate operation IMO.
Not a lot of food choices, so eat before you fly. That said, Dayton is an extremely easy airport to use. Only two terminals, it is very simple to find your way around. Processing through security is usually quick and easy. Rental cars are across the street from the main terminal in the garage no more than 100 yards away. And access to the highway is one left turn out of the complex.
In and out no busy traffic at all
Able to social distance easily.....
Very clean and friendly staff
