Philadelphia Museum of Art Parking Guide

The Philadelphia Museum of Art—one of the oldest art museums in the country—has 200 galleries and offers an impressive collection that covers American, European, and Asian art. West and North Entrances are open, while the East one is closed, while the Rocky steps are open for selfies. The museum offers plenty of covered parking spots in the nearby garage, but visitors have a few other options, too. Read through our guide to learn about the Philadelphia Museum of Art parking garage, rates, and directions! You’ll also discover off-site parking options, free parking areas, and transportation alternatives.

Philadelphia Museum of Art Admission

The museum allows contactless entry thanks to the online reservation system available on its official website. Reserve your admission ticket up to four weeks in advance, or become a member to gain free admission and easy entry without reservations. Here are the general admission prices, which don’t include entry to ticketed exhibitions:

Adults $25
Seniors(65 & over) $23
Students  $14
Youths(18 & under) Free

The Philly Art Museum is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. On other days, it opens at 10 AM and closes at 5 PM, except on Fridays, when it’s open until 8:45 PM. Every Friday night—after 5 PM—and on the first Sunday of every month, the Philadelphia Museum of Art allows visitors to pay any amount to enter. If you wish to cut your admission costs, that’s when you should come.

Philadelphia Museum of Art Parking Options

The Philly Art Museum has a garage parking structure located west of the main building. It’s within short walking distance of the entrance and near the Rodin Museum. To reach the museum parking facility from Kelly Drive, turn onto either Anne d’Harnoncourt or Waterworks Drive. If going from Spring Garden Street and through Anne d’Harnoncourt Drive, the garage will be on your left. Either way, you’ll see the following sign when you get there:

Accessible parking is available on all garage levels, next to the elevators. Any guest who occupies an ADA spot needs to display a disabled parking permit or license plate. Standard parking rates apply, and they are listed below.

How Much Is Parking at the Philadelphia Museum of Art Garage?

A standard parking rate at the garage is $32, but the museum visitors get lower rates. Validate your ticket at the Visitor Services Desk inside the museum to get the discounted parking price:

Museum members get free parking for up to 60 minutes, after which they pay $10 for the next four hours and $2 per additional hour. All guests have to pay the Philadelphia Museum of Art parking fees using their credit cards. To reduce your expenses, come to the museum after 5 PM on Friday, and you’ll be able to park in the garage for only $5. Whenever you arrive, don’t forget to validate your parking ticket!

Parking Lots Near the Philly Art Museum

Thinking about using an alternative parking lot near the building? To find a more affordable car parking structure, you’ll need to take at least a 15-minute walk to and from the museum. This is the walking distance of the 2201 Fairmount Avenue Lot, which has a rate of $14. An even cheaper option is available on Race Street—the Edgewater Garage parking rate is only $8, but it’s 20 minutes from the museum.

Street Parking

On-street parking spaces are available on several streets around the Philadelphia Art Museum. The closest metered parking is on Benjamin Franklin Parkway—between Logan Square and Eakins Oval—and just off Waterworks Drive. Waterworks Drive meters have a two-hour limit. Alternatively, try to find a suitable spot on Hamilton, Spring Garden, and other streets close to the Rodin Museum. The hourly parking price in Philly is $2 on most streets.

Free Parking Near the Philadelphia Museum of Art

The parking lot on Waterworks Drive near the boathouse offers a limited number of free spaces. Its location is convenient—right before you reach the museum gate—but the lot is almost always full, and finding an available spot is extremely hard. If you’re budget-conscious, we suggest checking it out but prepare a backup plan. You could also search for a free on-street spot on Pennsylvania or Fairmont Avenue; just don’t forget to check the signs for time limits and other useful information.

Transportation to the Museum

The art museum suggests using one of the several public transportation services, depending on your starting point:

Philadelphia International Airport is 10 miles from the museum. If you search for a reliable PHL Airport transfer, consider one of the following options:

  1. Booking a Philadelphia Airport Shuttle
  2. Requesting an Uber at Philadelphia Airport
  3. Catching a train to Philadelphia Airport
